At the heart of Roussillon Vineyard

Panoramic views in a good physical condition, meetings local producers and discovering different wines in a convivial atmosphere, each day a different soil, enjoy a country full of history (prehistory, catharism, medieval age.)

• Day 1 : Saturday

The hotel is opened from 6.30 pm. Briefing, a welcome pack which includes information about your holiday will be delivery. Dinner in the evening at the hotel at night.

•   Day 2 : Sunday :  The Côtes du Roussillon Villages Caramany and Maury wines

After breakfast, the minibus will take you to the little village of Saint-Arnac. Departure of the walking towards the village of Ansignan and discovery of the roman aqueduct. Picnic lunch at the village of Asignan or at the lake of the Desix.
In the afternoon, the minibus will take you to the village of Maury famous for natural sweet wines. Free time to visit the village and start of a special walk (1 hour) to discover the fauna, the flora, the landscape of Maury. Winetasting session.
Return by minibus to the hotel. Evening dinner and night.

• Day 3 : Monday : The "Natural Sweet Wine"

Breakfast. Start the walking at Montner to the village of Estagel, climbing through the vineyards up to the "Mas de la Beille". Picnic lunch in a pine-trees forest. Continues the walk through the pine-trees, oaks and vineyards.
Descent to Estagel, country of the Arago Brothers, passing by the Saint Vincent Chapel (10 century - pre-romantic) which dominate the small city.
In the afternoon, visit and tasting of various local produce at the goat farm in Estagel.
In the evening, enjoy a slide show with a wine producer at Montner Les Vignerons des Cotes d'Agly about the life of a vineyard following by a wine tasting of the natural sweet wines from the region : Rivesalte "ambré", "tuilé", "hors d'âges", and Muscat de Rivesaltes.
Evening dinner and night.

• Day 4 : Tuesday

Rest day.
Breakfast and dinner inclued.
Optional walk in the village of Vira or Saint-Martin. Dinner in a vigneron village to discover local specialities (hotel Plein sud at Estagel or resto'Latour des Saveurs at Latour de France, or restaurant at Maury). Night in the hotel.

• Day 5 : Wednesday: The Côtes du Roussillon Village Tautavel

After breakfast, the minibus will take up you to Tautavel. Start of the walk to "The Torre del Far" through the vineyards and up the hills, a nice discovery of the valley and superb views of the Canigou Mountain (2784m), and the Pyrenees chain.
Return to Tautavel and wine tasting session of Côtes du Roussillon Villages Tautavel at the co-operative. Picnic lunch in the village. In the afternoon, free time to visit and tasting of olive oil at the "Moulin à Huile de l'Agly" at Cases-de-Pène.
Dinner in a vigneron village to discover local specialities (restaurant l'Egrappoir at Cases-de-Pène or restaurant at Tautavel).

• Day 6 : Thursday: The different categories of soil

After breakfast, departure by minibus for the artificial lake on the Agly river and the pretty village of Caramany.
The walk starts from Cassagnes to climb gradually up to the Pic Aubeil in order to enjoy the panoramic view of the Corbières hills and the Agly Valley.
As you descend towards Bélesta-de-la-Frontière, you will witness the remains of a turbulent history medieval chapel (Saint Barthélémy), dolmen and neolithic cave and you will discover the historical remains of 6 000 years of human occupation.
At the Museum, you will relax around a winetasting of the wines and presentation of the different categories of soil. Possible walking "Through the ages" (2h30) or free visit of the village. Dinner in a vigneron village to discover local specialities (restaurant at Cassagnes or in Caramany).
Return to the hotel and night.

• Day 7 : Friday : The Côtes du Roussillon Village La Tour de France and the Rosé of Rasigueres

After breakfast, departure by minibus for Lansac, where the signal tower and old village are to be discovered.
The walk continues along the slate and gneiss landscape, view of the experimental vine plantations, the old château of Trémoine and the old iron ore mines, before arriving at Rasiguères. At the cellar, while you visit and enjoy the winetasting at les Vignerons de Planèzes-Rasigueres.
Picnic Lunch.
The rest of the walk is along easy tracks until La Tour de France, formerly a frontier village which marked the entrance to the kingdom of France (1258-1659).
Winetasting session at Latour de France. Transfer to the hotel by minibus. End of Program.

Le programme
This five days of walking includes the visit of the prehistory museum whitch presents the whole story of mankind in Europe since the first European humans until the doors to history, the castle Museum of Bélesta dedicated to recent prehistory with his archeogical treasure (unique in Europe) shows daily activities of neolitic, and thanks to visits of co-operative or private producers, winetastings and meeting winegrowers.

Level of difficulty
Walking on average 5 hours per day at a rythm of 2 miles per hour, the walking is comfortably spread over the day and the routes cover easy walking ground either on footpaths, tracks or quiet lanes.
Although you won't have to carry your be origins with you from day to day, a small daily rucksack is advisable. And don't forget to come in reasonably good physical condition.

Lodging and restaurant
The holiday is organised around your accomodation with a short transfer to the start walk.
Hotel reflect local catalan style situated in Montner or Estagel.
To discover the veriety of local cooking, for the three evening you will have the pleasure of dinning in three diferent restaurants, each with its own specialities. For lunch, there is a picnic lunch prepared by the hotel for your rucksack.

Free Tour / Accompanied Tour
You will discover through each itinerary, the many hidden faces of this wine producing region rich in Catalan history and culture : winetasting, visites to wine cellars, picnics or dinners, visits to chapels, hermitages and other historic sites.
The unaccompanied walkers will receive our road-book with IGN map, local historic and pratical information.
Concerning accompanied tour, a guide will be present all the stay.

Le Transport
All transferts from the hotel to start of the walks, in the evening for dinners in restaurants are made by a minibus or a taxi.

Free wine delivery
During the walking holiday, make the most of our free wine delivery service.
We collect all the wine purchased during the week and arrange for it to be delivered to your hotel.
Possibilities also exist for the transportation of large quantities of bottles, please ask for futher information.
