"On the river" Week-end
Romantic escapade towards Béziers Méditerranée
At your arrival in the evening, your hosts will welcome you in one of the bedrooms dedicated to their guests, in their house-boat.
If it is still daylight, you will enjoy a welcome cocktail, looking at the sunset down on the Canal, under the fresh shadow of the hudge plane-trees. If not, you will enjoy the enchanting peaceful landscape on your awakening.
When the night comes, multicolour lights wrap round the barge.
For dinner, a restaurant will be reserved for you. In case of late arrival, a gourmet basket will be provided for you.
After the breakfast or a late brunch, you may choose to bathe in the swimming pool, or go jogging or biking along the tow-path. Then you will go for a romantic walk in the Béziers gardens. Each of the gardens has its own style and charm. The Jardin des Evèques (bishop garden) is a very pretty "à la française" garden, that offers from the 18th century, a large panorama over the Orb valley.
At the Plateau des Poètes, you will admire the art of English gardens, from Denis and Eugène Bühler. There are beautiful iron cast gates, whose main gates open to the station, in order to create a link between the Paul Riquet avenues and the heart of the city.
The garden is adorned with statues from Béziers sculptors. Since 1990, the garden is being classified as an "historic monument"; it is a natural refuge for all birds.
You may have a nice ramble towards Villa Antonine where you will discover a place for lunch.
In the afternoon you will rejoin the Canal du Midi, through the Canal bridge and will read the graffiti left over by lovers; you will admire the powerful arks of the Pont-vieux and arrive to the "marches de cristal", poetic name given to the nine locks of Fonseranes.
You will be given the possibility of renting a boat for an unforgettable trip.
Dinner in Béziers or in Valras Plage in one of the best fish or sea-food restaurants.
After breakfast, you have the choice between several options:
Bikes are at your disposal, waiting for you to cycle along the tow-path. A delicious picnic prepared by your hosts and you will have the choice the best places among the trees or in the sun to enjoy it.
You may also go to the sea-side. The protected site of the Orpellières, between Valras Plage and Sérignan, very close to vineyard paths, will offer you a peaceful place, protected from the world rumours by the hightest dunes of the Mediterranean coast.
You will enjoy this magnificient free outdoor space, bordered by a fine sandy beach.
You will eat your picnic lunch with the company of seagulls or yellow terns.
With the changing seasons, the "Sansouire" plant is turning pink-violet in winter or soft green of spring, then yellow-orange in autumn.
The Contemporaneous art Museum of Sérignan will wait for you, with its primary colours and interior spaces where light plays around and will surprise you by the quality of its unique collections.
You may also enjoy the vibrant universe of Dado where the sculptures and frescos are presented in an old farm estate, nested in the natural site of the Orpellières.
If you may have the time, when the night comes, to dream in the front of the work of Daniel Buren and the architect Nicolas Guillot, that animates the space around the concert hall "La Cigalière" in Sérignan: le rayonnant , spreading out on 3 ha, with 170 inox poles, lightened from the inside by softened and coloured optical fibers.
Departure at the end of the day, the heart full with the magic of this week-end between sky and water.
